VCM Winter Running Series - Vienna

Rank 2 on the 7k distance

After I won the first two events of the VCM Winter Running Series in Vienna, I was one of the favorites for the 3rd race.

Due to intensive preparation for some exams at the Technical University in Vienna, I could not do my usual training program this week. Before the start it was clear that it would be very difficult to repeat the winning times of my first two races, although the running and the weather conditions were perfect. As usual some very strong runners were on the start line. In the end I was only four seconds behind my 3rd win.

This time my father was also taking part, but he could not support me. After 35:18 he finished over 11 minutes behind me, but ran faster than expected.

On 03/27 I have another chance at the LCC "Polar Bear Run" on the same track to improve my time.

Winter Sports Week in Wagrain / Salzburg

Right after the race in Vienna, I head for Wagrain, where the Winter Sports Week from my Sports Equipment Technology study starts Monday. Different disciplines like alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding each morning are on the mandatory program. In the afternoons I'll continue with my triathlon training. Of course I got my bike with me.

My next competitions:
3/26/2011  MTB Kamptal Classic Trophy - Langenlois / Austria
3/27/2011  LCC "Polar Bear Run" Vienna / Austria
4/17/2011  VCM Half-Marathon Vienna / Austria

VCM Winter Running Series - Vienna

Won the 7k distance again

Running was not the focus of my training on Fuerteventura Spain), but it wasn't canceled at all.
My goal for the second run of the VCM winter run series in the Vienna Prater was to improve my winning time from Jan. 23rd, so I chose the 7k distance again.

I won the 7k by 17 seconds. I was 20 seconds faster compared to the competition 4 weeks ago. About 800 runners were competing the 7, 14 and 21k.
On March 13th I'll do the third and last run of this popular series.

Two Weeks Training in Fuerteventura / Spain

From 01/29/2011 - 02/12/2011 intense triathlon training in Fuerteventura was on schedule. A lot of the very best international triathletes took the opportunity of ideal training conditions on this Canary Island (Spain), 120k off the coast of Africa. Some of the world's best athletes spend months on this islands for training.

Example for a workout schedule:
- small breakfast (fruit with yogurt and tea)
- run 7 - 15k (competitive pace - Half-Ironman pace)
- big breakfast with bread, cheese, croissants, porridge, honey,...
- bike 70 - 120k (sometimes with international top bikers)
- small snack for lunch, rest
- swimming in the 50m pool 3k (on an ordered lane)
- big dinner with loads of fish and seafood
- sleep 21:00

More than 1000 km on my bike took me on almost all roads on the mountainous Canary Island. Sometimes strong headwinds intensified the training effect. To keep up with some of the world's best triathlon bikers was surprisingly easy (especially in the mountains).
I was able to improve my swimming by further changing of my technique.
The increase of my running performance will be seen at the next run competitions in Austria.

Fuerteventura - Las Playitas - is highly recommendable to every athlete during pre-season.

Back in Austria I have to get used to lower temperatures - but the training goes on as well as college in Vienna.

VCM Winter Running Series - Vienna

Won the 7 k Road Race in Vienna - a successful start of 2011

More than 600 competitors ran the first competition of the VCM winter running series in the Vienna Prater.
You could decide to run 7k, 14k or a half marathon.

I chose the 7 km distance, which fits best in my currently triathlon preparation. I won the race by a clear margin.
After my return from Fuerteventura I'll do the 2nd VCM winter run on February 20th. My goal is to improve my last winning time.

Training Camp on Fuerteventura

I'll be in Fuerteventura / Canary Islands / Spain for summer season preparation from 29.1.2010 until 12.2.2011. The place where I'm staying is called Las Playitas. It offers a heated 50 m pool, running trails and hilly cycling tracks. Maybe I'll get the opportunity for some open-water training.

International New Years-Run Vienna 2010

3rd Place - Main Class - despite freezing conditions

New year's run in Vienna at the Wiener Ringstrasse - 5,325 k - was a great season closing again.
Due to freezing temperatures (-4 C) only 2.500 runners took part this year.

I was able to improve my 2009's time (18:01) with a new personal best on this course: 17:43
On the last meters I could go all out to achieve rank 7 (overall).
Winner overall was Dieter Pratscher.

It is always nice to end a season on the podium place.
I'm looking forward to season 2011.
