"Weinstrassenlauf"
On Sunday at 10am over 300 starters took part in the road race in the southern Vienna Woods along the wine route. The 10 km was on very hilly terrain and took course through famous wine villages in Austria. Short after the start I could break off the field with Georg Wittenberg (LC First Bank). Over the complete distance I had a 10 second lead. In the climbs I was able to expand the lead. I was able to parry all attacks from Georg. After 0:35:49, I won the race with six seconds winning margin. Third was the German Jens Rosenhaeger, who started for the Sports Union Perchtoldsdorf. The fastest lady Buxhofer Sylvia came to the finish in 0:40:06. A nice ceramic vine leaf as a trophy is now in my trophy cabinet. The two bottles of local white wine, which I also won, I gave to my supporter - my father. On Friday I'm off to Switzerland, to Prangins near Geneva for the XTERRA Switzerland My next events: |

"Leitha Man" Sprint-Extreme-Sprint-Duathlon
The "Leitha Man" event in Lichtenwoerth near Wiener Neustadt / Austria hosted this event the 7th time. But it was my participation at this Extreme-Sprint-Duathlon. 5 km cross country and 5 km mountain biking was not really unusual for me. But this Duathlon was held in the creek of the Leitha, a small river in Eastern part of Austria, and it was rather challenging. Raining during previous days let the Leitha swell that the track had to be changed. Also local fire fighters helped to make the race happen. Minutes before start, it started to rain again. About 1/3 of the course was to run and bike in 10-50 cm deep water. Due crossing the riverbed several times with the bike on my shoulder, I almost had the same time on the bike as on the run. Because of slippery rocks falls into the water were almost inevitable. After about 38 minutes I was the first - and winner - of the 50 individual starters and defeated the three-times winner of the last years, Andreas Koegler, clearly. About 50 teams (one runner and one biker) also took part in this strange event. Short after the competition - sponsored by Red Bull - there were several TV interviews. My next events: |

XTERRA Germany - cancelled due to floodwaters
Spindleruv Mlyn is a ski resort in the north of the Czech Republic at an altitude of 750 m - 1500 m. This time I went alone without any support. The drive from Vienna took me more than six hours. High mountains and beautiful weather were perfect for racing, I thought. Start was at 12:00 - I almost froze to death while swimming.
After endless 17 minutes for 1000 m (!) in the water I could hardly move my fingers, even put off the wetsuit I lost almost a minute.
Why the fast guys had no problems and the winner did it in 14 minutes (swimming + T1) is a miracle... The winner at the ladies was Renata Bucher / SUI. Carina Wasle / AUT finished fifth. My next events: |

Grossglockner Mountain Running Race
Nearly 1,000 participants from 20 nations were racing. That was a new record. The day before were 25 degrees Celsius on an altitude of 2500 m, but the weather changed overnight and the temperature dropped by almost 20 degrees. The men from Kenya got 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7th.
With Kosahei Isaak-Toroitich there was a new winner.
Last year's winner finished only second.
Rank 3 place went to a mountain runner from New Zealand, fifth was a Swiss. I got 17th in the M20 age group. I have to be satisfied because of this huge world-class field. After 1 hour 30 minutes I crossed the finish line.

XTERRA France - Xonrupt / Gerardmer
I Won my Age Group M20. That means I secured the slot for the 2010 World Championship in Maui. The flight for this fall is already booked. This was definitely my hardest XTERRA Triathlon ever. With 300 starters, the competition was sold out. The field looked like in a World Cup. Athletes from USA, South Africa, Japan and Europe were fighting for starting places for the XTERRA World Championship on 24th October in Maui, Hawaii, USA. For the French it was also the national championships. Swimming was the usual crowd. As the water temperature was 21 degrees, it was a wetsuit swim. After the cross country run I reached the finish line after 3 hours 30 minutes. The victory at the pros went to the favorite Nico Lebrun, who occupies top positions already for years. Special thanks to my sister Larissa, who helped me through France with her French skills and supported me well during the competition. Time for recovery is not too much. Grossglockner mountain run already is on Sunday.
